"The Jackson Law" is one of the only state laws in TN that actually allows local governments to block (or accept) the creation or expansion of a dump (landfill) or solid waste processing facility.
Recently, there has been an increased push from corporate lobbyists to try to overturn the Jackson Law in the 2026 legislative session. If successful, this would strip away one of the ONLY decision-making tools local communities have.
